Estate Sale Vibes: Community Forklift
On weekends when there are no Estate Sales, I cannot recommend checking out Community Forklift more. It’s my secondhand Disney World. The prices are good, and there’s a whole range of stuff available - glassware to doors to appliances to power tools to furniture. It’s a non-profit reuse center, and everyone I’ve met who works there is really passionate about salvaging and secondhand. The inventory is constantly changing. Also, they have great programs that “distribute free materials to other nonprofits and households with limited resources”.
This weekend, they have normal hours for Fourth of July (they’re even open on the 4th):
Tuesday – Friday: 12pm to 7pm
Saturday & Sunday: 10am to 5pm
As a heads up, the warehouse does not have air conditioning, so definitely wear something lightweight and if you want time to explore, bring something hydrating. I’d also recommend planning to go later in the day when it’s not as hot.
Here are some items I saw today that I loved (some of the items are available to buy online and I linked them):
Art Deco Waterfall Vanity with Round Mirror - $275
This is an insanely gorgeous piece, and when I saw it pop-up on their Instagram a little while ago, I thought it would be gone in a second. But I saw it in person today and was obsessed. The wood could use a little love in some spots, but I think it’s stunning.
MCM Style 2-Light Chrome Table Lamp with Pull Chains - $35
Community Forklift is really really great for lamps. And I love this chrome one. For lighting, they’ll note on the tag whether it’s been tested.
Yellow Floral Couch - $95
I think this is so regal. There is a little green stain on one of the cushions, but $95 is hard to beat. Community Forklift is an especially great opportunity if you’re handy or handy aspiring and can spend some time rehabbing furniture.
Light Green Sofa - $195
This couch didn’t photograph well, but I think it has really cute, etherial, witchy vibes. It’s green and velvety.
Chaise Lounge - $95
I clearly am very into their current couch selection. I’ve always wanted a chaise lounge to read and dramatically cry on.
Paper Doll Framed - $95
I don’t fully understand what this is, but I’m obsessed. I saw it in the art section which is always full of a variety of art.
Peter Hvidt Danish Teak Vanity with Drop-Down Desk and Drawers - $325
I actually spotted a few teak furniture pieces so calling all my Mid Century Modern Heads.
Glassware - $2.50 per glass
There is some great glassware and full sets. I like that this set is an unusual shape.
Royal Typewriter - $95
I love the color of this typewriter. The tag says “Iconic Royal Typewriter Used By Writers Such as:” “David McCullough”, “James Michener”, “Edward R. Murrow Etc.”
Vintage (2003) Italian Designer Pendant - $325 (I think!)
Okay, there’s so many pendant lights and chandeliers. I thought these were unique and fun. I didn’t catch the price tag entirely so I think these are $325 but don’t quote me. On a lot of the items, the prices will be different depending on the date, the price of stuff decreases the longer it’s left unsold.
Let me know what you think!
